A brief introduction
I am a dedicated and compassionate tutor with extensive experience supporting children across primary education, special educational needs, and English as an Additional Language (EAL). I have worked in a range of school settings, including mainstream primary schools and specialist SEND schools, supporting children with diverse learning needs to build confidence, skills, and independence.
My background includes working closely with children with Autism, ADHD, SEMH needs, and language barriers, as well as delivering targeted phonics, maths, and reading support. I am passionate about creating a calm, supportive learning environment where children feel safe, understood, and motivated to succeed.
Alongside my hands-on teaching experience, I hold a BSc (Hons) and a Master's degree, bringing strong academic foundations, structure, and professionalism to my tutoring. I believe every child can make progress with the right approach, patience, and encouragement.
Tutoring Experience
I have several years of experience working as a Teaching Assistant across UK primary and special education settings. My roles have included supporting class teachers with lesson delivery, adapting learning materials to meet individual needs, and providing one-to-one and small group tuition in phonics, maths, and reading.
I have worked closely with children requiring additional support, including those with Autism, ADHD, SEMH needs, and EAL learners. This has involved using tailored strategies to help children manage emotions, access the curriculum, and build confidence in their abilities. I have also supported children with medical needs and worked in line with safeguarding policies to ensure their safety and wellbeing at all times.
My experience includes liaising with parents, teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals such as psychologists and therapists, as well as monitoring progress and contributing to regular reviews. I have also delivered individualised reading sessions that helped improve pupils' reading age and engagement with learning.
Teaching Method
My teaching approach is child-centred, patient, and structured. I focus on understanding each child's strengths, challenges, and learning style before tailoring sessions to meet their individual needs. I break learning down into manageable steps, ensuring children feel supported rather than overwhelmed.
I use clear explanations, repetition where needed, and positive reinforcement to help children build confidence and achieve small, meaningful successes. For children with SEND or anxiety around learning, I prioritise creating a calm and predictable environment, using gentle encouragement and practical strategies to support emotional regulation and focus.
For EAL learners, I incorporate visual aids, practical examples, and creative methods to support understanding and communication. Across all sessions, my aim is not just academic progress, but helping children feel capable, motivated, and proud of their achievements.
